It all started in 1981 with a trip home to Honduras, a few purses and a small table and grew into a Tucson destination. As a recent immigrant to the United States Carmen was still struggling to find her niche, so she returned home for a refreshing visit with the family. While she was in Tegucigalpa she bought some purses and a small table with some of her friends back home in mind. When she returned many people were excited by the items she brought back, and she made her first official sale to her then manager at Pizza City. Carmen decided she would make a trip to Mexico and bring back as much as she could to sell in Tucson in order to support her and her son, and so began the story of Que Bonita. Carmen would bring back many items from rugs, pottery, and clothing to hand made crafts from Mexico and South America and sell them at Tanque Verde Swap Meet in the 1980s. She shared a booth space with Chuck, a nomad artist who sold wood crafts and the latest craze. Eventually the two would build a marriage, family and business together and open their own store on Tanque Verde in 1986. As the years passed Que Bonita has grown not only in size but as part of the community, with customers from far and wide, who have returned time and again for the last 28 years. Our customers know that not only will they receive a quality product at a reasonable price but they will also receive a warm welcome into the Que Bonita family. Stop in to experience a bit of Tucson culture.
